  • MORE CZT Tranny questions

I am seriously looking at the 1700 rebuilt tranny from CZT and wanted to make sure there was nothing i didnt know before i buy it.
What kind of differential comes with it?
Is it practical for a daily driver?
How quick can i get one?
What will this change in the car's performance?
What all is included with this and what parts are upgraded from stock?

Dude....for $1700 you can get another complete car.

What is wrong with your tranny that you need another one?

I suggest getting the guts from a 99+ escort tranny and putting those guts into your case. The escort tranny is a direct drop in and has upgraded sychros. As for an LSD get the mazdaspeed LSD and toss it in as well.

Parts and labor performed at a tranny shop wouldn't cost you anywere near $1700 and you would have a like new LSD tranny.

I have to agree with Jeff here. I think the CZT tranny is a huge rip-off. You really aren't getting much more that a stock tranny.

      That's just my .02 though.

bronze shifter bushing, new bearings/syncros, cryo treating with proof, inspection, new output shaft, 4.6 final, hd ring gear, mazdaspeed LSD, reinforced case, tranny saver, AND a CZT part that goes in the trans to stop the gear stripping problem. $1700 is not that bad. BTW, that is without a core charge, thats an outright buy, no core needed.

1400 is for the one without the Mazdaspeed LSD. It uses the same diff, just without the clutchpacks installed, a 4 spider open diff. IMHO thats the best deal, since an LSD just wears out your tires a bit faster anyway.

I have seen standard mtx rebuilds go for up to 900, and half the time they don't change everything, just what looks bad. You get just past the warranty (which, btw is instantly up if it shows any signs of abuse or racing ie they see it in a tricked out car with a buncha guages and a tach) and the rebuild dies.

Or you get the rebuild and it whines like a jet engine taking off because they didn't set the shaft endplay or gear spacing.

Most shops here charge 400-600 just to change syncros and bearings. Add in the Mazdaspeed diff, IF they can get it for you, and you are looking at 900 easy. And your case is still going to crack down the line at some point.

Its all about what you want: if you don't care about pulling your trans in a few months, then fine. If you are going to abuse the hell out of it and don't want to worry about it, you will get the CZT trans.

BTW, the G5m has a FATAL flaw in it, and, depending on what year you have the trans will eventually self-destruct if you are dragging with it. They fixed it in some years, but in most the problem is still there. Ford/Mazda snuck a fix in towards the end, and we add that part too.

I don't think the CZT tranny is a rip off, but this is coming from someone who has never done any tranny work and basically doesn't know shit about trannies. 1700 for a tranny isn't too bad considering a junkyard one is about 300-400+ and then the LSD is about 560 plus all that work/money to actually rebuild(bearings synchros) it. Not too mention the CZT bracket and the "new" fix thing. What is it that Mazda/Ford snuck in to help our trannies?

Also, how is the case reinforced??

Damn the man lives... For all the work done it seems fair enough. Concidering the cyro stuff. Depending on how long it would take to get it. Don't think I will ever be putting down enough power to use that thing.

Well I wont say that cyborgzero is a rip off but 99% of the people in here do not need that tranny. A low mileage junk yard PGT/MX6 tranny can be had for $200. I have done it a few times. I wouldn't stick $1700 of non-recoverable money into my 10 year old car unless I REALLY needed to.

FYI - 90% of the time the tranny grinds during shifts or cracks the case and cryo wont fix that. Cryo on an aluminum case and brass sychros doesn't do squat.

The other performance upgrades sound very nice.

speaking of bronze shifter bushings.. are these better than poly bushings and how much for just the bronze shifter bushing? I have alot of slop in my shifter.

Don't mean to attack you guys but you guys are being simply outright cheap for what you are getting. I don't have the czt tranny but i plan on purchasing it in the future. And if you've hung around other cars before... you'll quickly find out that tranny upgrades are not cheap! i've seen them go for double that, close to 3k. You're ratios are going to be different with the new final drive, which alone is worth 3 k, plus you're getting a tranny that can handle power loads better AND YOU"RE GETTING AN LSD! have u seen the lsd on corksport? i think it was like 1200 or something just for the LSD! 1700 is a steal! you can spin both tires, not only allowing u to burnout but takeoffs will be alot faster, turns will be more powerful without that left wheel spinning, and you can handle more power. I'm just appalled that you guys think 1700 is expensive, i can't wait to get my hands on one.

Well this isn't another car....this is a 10 year old probe and tranny replacements can be had for $200. So if you pay 3k then you are a fool.

As for the new final drive....I would rather have taller gearing than shorter gearing....if you are putting enough power down that you think you need this somewhat beefed up tranny then you wont want such a low first gear and you may want tall enough gears to stay in 4th gear through the entire 1320. Furthermore gearing changes can be had simply by changing tire size.

I blew my tranny and got another from the junkyard for $200 cash. Personally, if I had the choice I wouldn't drop that $1700. I can think of a few things that I can do to my car with that kind of money that will actually improve my quarter mile. Just my 2 cents though. Hell what do I know, right.

Thanks for the input and your opinions but i am going to get this tranny. I am more than happy to shell out the little bit or extra money to support this company who is doing great things for our cars. I personally don't think i am overpaying at all b/c the price of the parts i am getting is expensive and time consuming to do and get separetly.

                              jkpgt96,

what do u think of the tranny so far, assuming that you finished.

it sounds great for the whole rebuild kit, but what about just doing the $650 high hp kit that includeds the LSD, closer gears and whatnot on a fully functional stock tranny?
