  • There is somebody in the Netherlands that is trying to reinforce his gearbox.

    What are your thoughts ?

      would have been alot easier to just get the Par bearing cups that are already made. still cool to see someone trying something new.

        And to address the 2nd gear issue...why not just do as leo is/was wanting to do and get a slightly longer 1st gear? Mfactory will make them for us..just not sure on the price..

        And Rob, any idea if PAR will sell a 2nd gearset? I tried emailing them, but never got anything back..

        Also, Mac1 mentioned doing a 5th gear delete with a plate type of thing to help the trans, similar to what Honda guys do..I think that would be useful provided you had a gearset (or turned the rpm) that 4th would be long enough..

          I'm sure they would I can put someone in contact with the guy I dealt with and met at the SEMA show during my purchase. They make custom ratios which I opted for but I don't think people know they offer that.

          • Yeah...I was directing that at you...I would be very interested in a 2nd gearset with a stock ratio..assuming they would sell me it..I just was unsure because they didn't have it on their site..

            • looks alot like what I put on my tranny! It seems to work! For now... It held 340whp / 325 lbs of torq

                    • Hi guys lots of fun reading and time to start posting with my new progress. I recently moved to the next stage of my cars guts and will be ordering a 12345 from par. I need some help with ratios. I want the gears to be a little longer than stock say 15% any input or help would be much appreciated.

                        • I woke up this morning thinking "why did Mazda not put forged & nitrided in/out shafts in the stupid gearbox? They sure went through the trouble of doing that for the engine, so it makes no sense that the gearbox was neglected.

                          What I gather from this thread is that no other actual transmission is available, but the entire upgraded gut set is available from PAR and PAR only. I read about someone laser-cutting a steel plate to replace the weak spot in the case and it supposedly has better bearings that hold the shaft from thrusting outward.. Has that been done by itself or does that plate only come from PAR?

                          After destroying a few transmissions myself, I have slowly sunken into a financial rut. I am desperate to keep my turbo PGT dream alive and that will require fixing one of these gearboxes so that it can keep going at warp factor 1 without a core meltdown. Everyone please give me some advice, but not the "stop flogging it" line.

                            • Not sure if the following has been posted here but it's worth mentioning.
                              The FS's tranny could be swapped into the KL's bell housing, or you could just swap out 5th gear and have better gas millage on the highway plus higher top speed with the FS's (from a 93-97 626 2.0) 5th gear

                                you want top speed? Get a Escort trans and swap the bellhousing
