  • as to what chuck said...

when i was in CA i was reading up on the whole out of state title/plate thing for residence, cuz my plan was to keep the probe with NC reg/insurance etc. then i read somewhere (i forget, but it was a gov't site, like DMV or something) that they have a program/website for people to go and SNITCH on someone who they think might be a CA residence but have an out of state plate. it was to encourage neighbors and what not to turn in people they know that live in CA but who are keeping their vehicles as out of state - mainly to avoid paying taxes/fees.

      • ^^ Yeah i've read that, same here in AZ. 2 years now with 2 vehicles with Cali plates in AZ and no trouble. Guess you got to ask yourself "do you feel lucky", I always do.

        LOL, ok Dan i'm out.

          • Do you think the mobile dyno would break if FP were to give'er a spin?

And the 323 will be legal, naturally. Right now I got everything but high HCs sorted - the last is due to the crappy valve stem seals and too much oil in the combustion chambers. And the DMV was right - it would take up to 12 weeks for them to stamp out the new custom plates, and at the end of the 12th week, they were done. "90 MAZDA", to answer the most common question (which I get 2-20 times a day). And would it be too narcissistic if the license plate frame said "My other car is FrankenProbe"?

            ---------------------------------------

This thursday I'll be blasting the hot pipes and prepping for the thermal coating, which I hope to get done next week.

Not sure yet if I'll be adding a turbine blanket, the T4 units are not cheap. Titan Motorsports thinks I own a Supra as theirs is priced at $150 and I'm not touching the EBay stuff.

Not at all haha. Not sure if you wanna go the cheap route of this but kragen . . .excuse me . . .O'reily's has silver ones that you can arrange letter tiles in to say whatever you want. I had them on my escort base for while sayin "My other Pony is a Mach1" They may not be up to par with the 323's standards though

                • Well, there is no easy way to put this, so bluntly, this is the end of the road for FrankenProbe as we know and love her.

I've been struggling with this decision for some time, really pendulum-like - and when it all settled, all signs point toward termination of the program. Happens all the time, to the best of them even (see Constellation program - and yes, I really did just compare a piddly Probe to our nation's return to the moon - big whoop, wanna fight about it?).

I honestly don't see anyone with deep enough pockets to buy the whole car ($21k FIRM is the lowest I would take for the whole car, $22.5k with the trailer). Investment exceeds $40,000 in parts alone. Labor I paid for, plus my own labor is not included. If you dropped a stock Probe at a shop and said "here is my no limit credit card, I want a FrankenProbe twin", you'd leave with a bill of about $65,000.

Anyway, that's not much in terms of a eulogy. Perhaps someday I can construct a more appropriate one for the car that was a joy and a pain to own, build, and tune.

Partout coming in a day or so. It took me 6 hours to just gather, organize, and tally the hundreds of receipts I have for this monster. A massive thread will be posted in the for sale section shortly - if you want any parts, please follow the instructions listed in there when I post it.

Thanks to all who contributed something to the project whether it be a part I bought, a post or thread on PT with useful info, or one of the many local POC members who have lent a hand in its build - Jon, Adam, Matt, Tony, Ray, and everyone else.

You are the decider of your priorities. As sad as it will make us all to even see you and Frankenprobe separated even if it does continue on with someone else as a whole, When other life decision take there place the cars and toys fall by the wayside. . . at least for now. Im sorry that the tarp could not stay on

                      • Say it ain't so Dan. If you have other priorities right now might I suggest storing it until time/funding allows the project to resume? You could always resurrect it at a later date.

Nevertheless, if this isn't an option I can completely understand your position. Life has a funny way of rearranging your priorities from time to time. I know mine have been shifting lately as well...In any case, best of luck with the part out if you do have to go through with it!
