dont want to start an argument.....but why do we have to have gay pride marchers and all this stuff??....we dont have 'straight pride marchers' or festivals....?...i dont have anything against gays, infact i dont care what your preference is....everyone to what they believe in, but it just annoys me sometimes when the 'gay movement' is constantly thrust in your face.....

just reminds me of what a friend of mine said a while back....

'nowadays you cant say anything about anyone without someone complaining or trying to sue you, except a 'white, male, straight guy' .....you can say anything you want about and you cant sue, any other combination and you get sued for saying anything...'

Just because it's a Gay Pride event, doesn't mean only gay people can partake in it. My best friend in the picture is Straight. Shes whats called an Ally. "Straight but not narrow." Just like Mardi Gras is open to anyone, the events take place so that people can have fun and celebrate, even if they aren't gay. So long as you don't go into a Pride Celebration hating Gay People, we could give two shits. Get drunk, have fun, and just be an equal to us, and we have no problem. Its when people come in and start preaching that we get pissed off. If you piss off a drag queen, she'll bludgen you with a Stiletto

Why Gay Pride Parades and Festivals? ITs a way to celebrate Diversity. Why Greek Festivals? Irish Festivals? German Festivals? All the same deal. Celebrate what you identify with. Let me tell you, theres nothing more fun than shamelessly dancing with a hoard of hot lesbians

they obviously arnt the only ones looking for attention. dont you think you could have worded your dislike for gays a little better? maybe it wouldn't offend people AS much. but anyway, thats a good question. why do they need parades to come out of the closet.. straight people dont need a festival to celebrate being straight.. why do gays? but its still nice that they are being accepted more, so i guess thats something to celebrate.

There are a couple of inherent problems with those options already and before it's even begun:

1) IF a parade/festival/event was organized to 'celebrate' being white/straight, every single minority group would be up in arms to protest against it, there would be legal action taken to stop it, the courts would side with the minorities because they want to be 'sensitive' to them.
Proven by a HS girl that started a caucasian club in Northern California (I think) that was sued because it was assumed racist and was court ordered to cease and desist.
Groups such as the NAACP with large bank rolls would have a field day.

2) I'm not sure if you're already insinuating this or not (seems pretty apparent) but the people who want white pride month are extremists and racists - and yes, I refer to the Neo Nazis and KKK.
They are not exactly thinking on the same level of celebration of culture that I would want to have representing my race/sexuality. (As proven by someone a couple posts above).
If they would eliminate the hate/bigotry and promote the positives accomplished and yet to be accomplished then I would hope that no one would have a problem with that. But again, see #1.



Don't take this as trying to complain about a double standard because I know there are plenty of other things out there that the gay community and black, hispanic, asian communities could bring up to counter.

Kind of like katherself asked: 'why do they need parades to come out of the closet? I can understand your pride. Hell I have pride in my job, my wife, my life but I don't parade them around... well maybe my wife but that's a naughty thing, err, I mean... we don't go around partying in public about it.

I see these parades all the time since I live in Hollywood close to West Hollywood. I don't understand the concept. What does a person's sexuality have to do with public display and pride? Using St. Patrick's as an excuse, or other parade that has been celebrated on public streets, is not the same since they do not celebrate anyone's sexuality.

Besides i think if the parades stopped, all of them, gay or straight, ethnic or not, I would have an easier time getting home since there would no traffic.
