Problem is we live in NY so the OBD2 system needs to be functional.

Well, technically doesn't a motor have a VIN? It could be matched against the VIN on the dash...It could also be checked against the VIN on the title. Plus, the VIN is also listed on the registration.

Some newer OBD2 computers actually have the vin number in the EPROM... I never thought they did but I was snooping around in my scan tool and found it.
If you register the car as an older one the only people that would know are the people that know cars extremely well and realize It's a newer body style.
