  • Well, when it comes down to it it's situation dependent, really. In my particular situation I'll get a bunch MORE money back, because after we're married both of our incomes will count as one.....aaaaaand with Heather not working right now it's going to look like she's not making anything, thus my return will be hefty this next year.

    • Welp, tore into the FD last night...turns out that fuel line is pretty pinched, I'd say. However, what was even more interesting was that I decided to replace my plugs, and check my wires/coils while I was in there. As expected, my plug wires were all within the tolerance of the maintenance manual (16 kohms resistance per meter of wire), and my leading coil checked out from L1 to L2, and from lead to lead within the connector...So it appears my leading coil is fine, which is cool.

However, when I pulled the spark plug boots off my plugs to change them out, I noticed that the L2 (leading plug #2) plug wire came off the plug with ease. As it turns out, no matter what I tried it would NOT lock onto the plug. I imagine that it was still firing under normal driving, but once some serious boost started building and spark is critical, it wasn't cutting the mustard. I also noticed that that same plug had a significantly worn down center electrode. I got all of the plugs replaced, but I needed to order the wires. Hopefully they'll be here by Friday, so I can get it all back up and running before the bachelor party.

And of course Advance Auto didn't have the stainless line I needed. I'll be running out to Doug's speedshop on my lunch break to pick one up. It also appears that the shop had electrical tape around that line, and when I had pulled it off (surprise surprise) it was leaking slightly from that point.... And that wasn't something that I did. So all in all, I'm glad I'm replacing it. Hopefully the plugs/wires/fuel line explains the hesitation under boost, and it might even explain the slightly lower vacuum I've been pulling lately, if that plug wasn't firing right. Keeping my fingers crossed!

          • So I know with unwaivering certainty theres absolutely no way i can afford flyrtle. I'm already going to be on a TIGHT budget this weekend. Which brings me to my next question, can i ride down with someone this weekend?

                • That means I'll more than likely need to ride down with someone else as well, since it's pretty unlikely I'll a) have the RX7 up and running by then, and b) the weather will be 100% perfect all the way down there and all the way back.

                  • Sorry, mang. Erin and I sat down and tried to figure out a way but with my car payment due that weekend there's just no way around it. There was no scenario I could make work.

We'll figure something out. Hell, I could drive my Civic down if I need to...lol

                      • I think you'd get wrapped up in a very different experience if you took the Civic down...

                        • Meh, people would understand. It's not like I either a) think it's fast, or b) would even consider taking it down the track.

On another note, of COURSE my ****ing plug wires won't be here til next Tuesday...at which point I'll be down in Georgia for work...

So I'll get back late Thursday night and have about 5 seconds to put the car together to see if it takes care of that misfire before we head out Friday. Even if the misfire is gone, I'll have zero time to road test it.

                          • Ha! Eat shit rx7.com, you slow asses. Ordered the wires from Advance, expedited shipping, they'll be here tomorrow or Friday.

I guess it's just been so burned into my head that they really can't get parts for these cars, so I seldomly even check. That's usually the case, anyway.

                              • ^lol...Yeah, Idk how they'd be with RX7 parts. I could always give them a try. Either way, at least I'll know by Friday whether or not this cures my misfire. I'm thinking between that really pinched fuel line, and my L2 plug wire that was practically slipping off the plug entirely, it should take care of it...at least I hope.

Then again, it IS an RX7, so sometimes it is something totally illogical.
