  • No spark?

    HI GUYS
    im new an i have a 93 probe gt, i just recently replaced all gaskets an hoses under the hood, put everything back and it wont start. i have compression, and fuel but there is no spark. the starter turns the engine over with no problem. the distributor is only a year an half, i was planning on doing hei, but i wanna make sure thats it first. what are some of the symptoms of a bad crack position sensor. oh ya it has new plugs an wires also.
    any help would be great! thanks in advanced

    Welcome!

    Use a paper clip to check the codes, following the instructions here: http://forums.probetalk.com/showthread.php?t=1701015446
    See if you get code 02.

    But a 1993 ought to run even if the crank position sensor is bad. So it's very probably your distributor.

      you can do a ohm reading on the coil as well ; primary - .49 -.73 @ 68 deg. secondary - 20k -31k @ 68 deg.

        My 93 also had the same problem. There are some grounds around the fuse box that if they are corroded it won't start. That's what was wrong with mine, and when i cleaned the connections it started right up.

          ok i got to lookin an decided i would crawl under there an take cps out, just to clean an examine. well the wire was almost cut clear through, i spliced it together real good, an still nothing. i think the battery has a bad sell, it wont take charge, so getting new one tonight. the connections are all new or cleaned really well.
          i will defiantly try the paper clip, thanks for the link NickR.
          to tjvjr i have no idea how to use an ohm reader, i have one but dont know how to use it! guess now might be a good time to learn though. i know where the coil is but where on the coil do i test?

                ok im back.....got a new battery, turns over great! there is defiantly fuel going in to the rails but cant tell if its going through the injectors. i pulled a plug out an set it on the body, there seemed to be a very weak spark, but if that was the case shouldnt it at least try to start? all it does is turn over. i did the TEN/GND an all i could nt tell wat it was for sure but i do no it was either a 41 or 14, but im pretty sure it was 41.

                  Code 41 is very common. Code 14 is very rare. So it was probably 41. And code 41 certainly won't prevent it starting.

                  I fried my disty once (by merely cranking the engine with all the spark plug leads disconnected to test compression). There was a very weak spark, but it wouldn't start, or even try to start. A new disty and it fired right up.

                    that happend to mee its the disy my new 1 was toast 6 months after buying it sometimes they last a week sometimes years i guess its hit or miss

                        question...i have fuel pressure all the way through my rails but cant tell if its going through the injectors, but i can smell fuel in the cylinders. whats the most accurate way of know that fuel is getting to the cylinders?

                          i am actually going through the same thing atm and i put two dif ditsy in and burned them up crank pos will cause no spark its a code 04 or 02 do the hei its well worth it
