This must be a mistake, because this swap isn't possible. The bolt patterns aren't the same, as the 2nd-gen mounts have a smaller distance between the studs, so the 2nd-gen mounts can't fit a 1st-gen Probe/MX-6/626.

You know how the Rear sway bar endlinks from a Nissan Altima fit our cars, and they are cheaper as well as a better design?

Or how the front upper strut mounts from a 97+ Ford Escort are an almost direct swap and offer an immediate 3/4" Drop?

Or how 2G front struts on a 1G lower it as well?

I believe there is a rumor that Jeff Jeske stuck Escort Transmission internals into a 2G Case with success.....

What about how Porsche 911 carrera brakes are direct fit on a 2G (twin pot!)....

You know, things like this......where would it go, so we could add to it all the DIY fun stuff..................

                    • Maybe I missed it, but over at MX6.com they were talking about 2002-2003 Mazda Protege 5 calipers being a good replacement for the 2nd Gen rear caliper's as they have a tendency to screw up with the parking brake.

                      • * Non abs 93-02 and 98-02 626 abs rear hub assemblies fit the 2nd gen abs probes (cheaper). The old sensor ring knocks off and when heated up slip right back on without any pressing.
                        I can verify that one!

An 05 Dakota (fits several other vehicles) idler tensioner when coupled with a 3/8" washer (edit** put between the stock shim behind the pulley and the pulley) will fit the upper tensioner. The Dayco part number is 89018. 20 bucks for one of them plastic pulleys with a fresh ntn bearing. just a guess it'd be somewhere between 5-10 oz lighter. It's 2mm wider and 5mm less in diameter, but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference when tightening the belt. I know yeah just change the bearing, but when the outer race spins in the pulley not much good. 5-10 bucks of a JY job pulley ad 5-10 for a new bearing, the new pulley was less work.

edit** plus the parts store had a couple in stock.

                          • Another word on brakes. I've been following closely the 98+ 626 brake conversion over at mx6.com.

                            http://forums.probetalk.com/showthread.php?t=1701243013

                            Here's the link at mx6.com
                            http://www.mx6.com/forums/2g-mx6-oth...grade-how.html

Basically, comparing our '93-'97 PGT/MX6 LS to the '98-'02 V6 626 (not I4), the 626 uses slightly larger rotors all around. The rear calipers and pads are the same but on larger brackets to clear the rotor. The front calipers and brackets are both different but the piston is the same so rebuilt kits are the same and available all over. However, the slider pins are changed so you'll need a separate bushing kit if yours are bad. It's hard to find but I think it's Dorman HW16092 at rockauto.com. The front pads are significantly bigger on the 98+ 626 (V6). This looks like a relatively easy direct bolt on. Given the slightly larger rotors and significantly larger front pads, this is worth it if you can scrounge good and cheap parts.

MPV and Millenia swaps are harder. Not direct fit and those cars seem to have a larger master cylinder.

                            http://www.mx6.com/forums/2g-mx6-gen...grade-2-a.html

The Protege rear caliper swap has been discussed and seems to work nicely. The rotor is the same but the pads are bigger. I'm too lazy to find links right now... ya'll can search here or over at mx6.com
