[QUOTE=pgtfreak]Hybrids only get their totally super-duper awesome mileage, on long ass trips. I work with someone with a Honda Insight. She gets great MPG on the way to work (she lives an hour north), but driving short trips, her mileage is just as good as her husbands V8 Ram.

not to sound critical or anything but this makes no sense to me. a Hybrid, by definition, should receive most of its gas savings while in stop and go enviroments like traffic and city driving. How? a hybrids gas engine shuts off at stops and uses battery power to intially get going. a regular gas engine will keep idling/stay running no matter what. a hybrid engine also uses its gas engine 100% of the time when its cruising on the highway. it gets no benefit from the batteries when cruising like that. I just dont see how you can calculate a small hybrid engine getting the same mileage as a V8 truck on short trips.1988 Nissan 300ZX Turbo SS : My Shiro Special site. Limited edition Z31 model.

However, Hondas hybrids are not full hybrids, they are regarded as mild hybrids. A mild hybrid will have the gasoline engine running all the time, even with the electric.
A full hybrid, like the Toyota Prius, will actually shut off the gas engine like you are talking about and run on the electric motor. Hence the reason why the Prius gets 60mpg in the city, and 51mpg on the highway.~SumR
I don't own a car anymore and it's weird.
