    • Thanks Ant. I'm hoping to get it done ASAP, so I may just see if they have the gasket/gaskets at the local parts store....only bc she needs it back on the road.

Wait, you said you knew a guy in Vestal though, right? Or had a store somewhere close to us? I seem to remember something like that being said.

        • Those parts for the intake manifold gaskets aren't expensive. I paid $90 for the whole setup in that lumina I did with the same motor. Took me a little over a day.

          • Yeah, it's an updated set from Fel-Pro. I think I can do better than $90. Providing I have a vehicle to look them up for!

            • I am going to say Head gasket tom. That misfire may be caused because of that also. My buddies tiburon had the same problem but it had a random misfire could not figure it out for the life of us. Ended up being the head gasket was leaking.

              • So much oil gets caked up on the intake manifold gaskets and the coolant passages are right next to cylinder 5 and 6 intake ports. A good way to check is to pull you plugs. If only 5 and 6 are green, then you can get away with just intake gaskets. Also change your radiator cap while you're there. That was another problem the Lumina had. Now, you won't know which intake gasket set to buy until you tear into it more than likely. There were 2 listings for the lumina but I already had mine apart and knew which ones they were.

                • Technically they shouldn't be green, they should be orange.

                  • Agreed. Someone put the wrong coolant in the lumina before I got it...

                    • It's a 97 Pontiac Trans Sport Montana, Ant.

Jeremy, I'm going to pull the plugs tonight. I didn't want to pull them yesterday when the motor was hot...

Cylinder 2 was the one that misfired, so I'm going to be checking the front bank first. We'll see what happens! One thing I can tell you for sure though...with the power that thing had (or I should say lacked) coming up the hill, it was probably running on 2 or 3 cylinders, I shit you not. And it wasn't enough to even keep the thing running as I coasted into the driveway...

                      • Hard to say but likely head gasket if it's that bad. Still not bad to do. Harder on that then the lumina because of the cowl position. Drop the motor... You'll thank yourself later for it.

Assuming the rear head has to come off, I probably will.

                          • Head gasket set looks like it'll take care of everything if that's what it turns out to be.

                              • I edited my post to add the info... but $95, my cost, Tom.

Jeremy - as long as you don't mix the two, you can run the green all day. The orange is garbage. Gums up a lot.
